PROJECT
DESCRIPTION
GwiBin 1724 is an immersive Korean dining experience that reinterprets the elegance of Joseon royal culture through contemporary spatial design.
Inspired by the traditional Korean philosophy of hospitality, the restaurant welcomes every guest as an honored visitor entering a royal palace. Rather than simply recreating historical architecture, the design translates Korean cultural values into an experience shaped by natural materials, light, transparency, and human connection.
The spatial journey unfolds through a welcoming reception, a traditional performance area, intimate garden spaces, and private dining rooms. Inspired by the geometry of traditional Korean Changho windows, the architecture balances openness and privacy while creating a continuous dialogue between interior spaces and nature.
Through its carefully considered materials, atmospheric lighting, and cultural storytelling, GwiBin 1724 transforms dining into an experience where Korean heritage, architecture, and hospitality come together.
WHAT IS GwiBin?
The name GwiBin (귀빈; 貴賓) means Honorable Guest in Korean, reflecting the traditional value of welcoming visitors with respect, generosity, and thoughtful hospitality.

DESIGN TOPIC
"A Dining Experience of Korean Royal Elegance & Architectural Wisdom”
GwiBin 1724 restaurant is not just a dining space; it is an immersive journey where guests are honored as royal VIPs invited to the Joseon Palace. The experience blends Korean traditional hospitality, the hidden wisdom of architecture, and a deep philosophy of connection, void, and transparency.
I
Traditional Korean Changho windows serve as the project's central architectural inspiration.
Their delicate wooden grids create visual connections while maintaining privacy. By filtering natural light through translucent surfaces, the architecture allows shadows and patterns to change throughout the day.
GwiBin 1724 translates these principles into contemporary partitions, screens, and architectural details, creating a balance between openness and intimacy.
THE LANGUAGE OF
MATERIALS
The material philosophy of GwiBin 1724 is defined by three attributes: Void, Alive, and Intricate.
Inspired by traditional Korean architecture, these elements balance openness and privacy, natural warmth, and refined craftsmanship. Together, they create a contemporary dining environment where materials, light, and cultural heritage shape the spatial experience.
Transparency & Openness
Translucent surfaces and diffused light create a delicate balance between privacy and openness, allowing the space to feel light, calm, and connected to its surroundings.
